Tips on Cleaning Sterling Silver Naturally

  • The Baking Soda Method:
  1. Make a paste with baking soda and water.

  2. Add a few drops of peppermint or spearmint essential oil.

  3. Mix together and rub silver with the paste.

  4. Make sue you wash your hands well when finished.

  • Toothpaste Method
  1. Squeeze toothpaste on a cloth or sponge and gently rub on silver.

  2. You can also use your finger to scrub areas that are more tarnished.

  • The Salt Method
  1. Line the bottom of a pan with aluminum foil with the shiny side up. Heavy-duty foil works best. If your aluminum foil is thin, place a double layer in the pan.

  2. Place the tarnished silver on the foil.

  3. Add 1/2 cup of salt to a pitcher of hot water and stir to dissolve the salt.

  4. Add 1 1/2 cups of baking soda and let dissolve completely.

  5. Pour the salt and baking soda over the silver and let set until water cools and the aluminum foil turns dark.

  6. Remove the silver and rinse away any salt residue with cool water.

  7. Dry with a soft cloth and polish to shine.
